"All right, I'll go with you," [[you|You]] say.

"Okay," [[Billy]] says and starts the car.  The two of you drive, mostly in silence, back to your home town.  You pull up to Billy's house and he says, "I'll go in first and clear it with the folks."

Billy goes into his house and you wait outside in the car.  After about ten minutes or so, Billy comes back out, looking a bit upset.

"Well, no go," he says.  "I just tried to convince them that you just needed to stay the night, but they absolutely refused on a school night.  My stepfather's such a jerk.  I didn't tell them the truth, of course.  I suppose we could try that, but if so, you're going to need to come in and prove it to them."

Well, that doesn't sound like such a great idea to you.  Perhaps you should just head back to the Andersons.
